The Directorate of Sericulture, Bodoland Territorial Council works for the development and promotion of sericulture activities across the Bodoland Territorial Region, with special focus on Eri and Muga silk production, farmer support, training and sustainable livelihood development.
The Department mainly focuses on the development and promotion of Eri and Muga silk, while also supporting activities related to Mulberry silk production, reeling and quality yarn development.
Yes. Skill development programmes are conducted on silkworm food plant nursery and plantation development, silkworm rearing, grainage activities, Eri spinning, Muga and Mulberry reeling, and other related sericulture activities.
Grainage activity refers to silkworm seed production and related practices. Training in grainage activities helps improve the availability and quality of silkworm seed used for rearing.
The Department provides skill training on Eri spinning and Muga & Mulberry reeling to support the production of quality yarn and improve value addition in the silk sector.
Yes. Awareness programmes are conducted to provide information about sericulture practices, departmental activities, available opportunities, improved techniques and sustainable development.
Eri pupae processing activities focus on better utilization and value addition of Eri pupae. These activities can support additional livelihood and commercial opportunities within the sericulture value chain.
Sericulture farmers, rearers, spinners, reelers, weavers, artisans, rural communities and other stakeholders associated with silk production and processing can benefit from the Department's programmes and activities.
